While watching the week long events commemorating the passing of President Ronald Reagan,
internationally-known portrait artist, Leslie B. DeMille, was inspired to produce the painting
in honor of this well-beloved President. The painting was completed Friday, June 12, 2004 at
sunset—the same time that the final services for Ronald Reagan ended at the Reagan Library in
California.
Leslie B. DeMille also created a bronze sculpture, "The Peacemakers", commemorating the signing of the
INF Treaty ( for the elimination of nuclear weapons ) by then USSR General Secretary Gorbachev and USA
President Ronald Reagan. Mr. DeMille, accompanied by US Senator John McCain, presented the bronze to
President Reagan in the Oval Office of the White House. This sculpture is now on permanent exhibit at the
Reagan Library, Simi, California.
